About Janet
Janet, a 1st generation Nicaraguan on her mother's side, born in San Francisco, California, was immensely shaped by her bicultural views of life. She always wanted to help and better living conditions for folks she believed were suffering from the same hardships as her immigrant Latina mother. She was going down the wrong path as probably any other 13 year old teenager growing up in an urban city environment, until her mother took her to visit her family in Nicaragua. She immediately realized life wasn't easy for the underdeveloped regions of the world and she quickly returned to her homeland to fervently pursue a college degree. Janet graduated from San Jose State University in California and went on to work as a Project Manager for General Electric's Nuclear Division, but the gnawing feeling in her soul was yearning and pleading her to really help the Latino community. Thus, the genesis of a law enforcement career working as a San Francisco Police Officer to serve and protect the members of the Mission and Ingleside Districts in San Francisco, which were predominantly Latino communities. Yet, to her astonishment, idealism quickly became disgust at the inevitable results of institutionalized systems, and the quest for her current life began.
As a result of a work-related injury, Janet sought out the health benefits of Yoga in 2004. She quickly discovered Ayurveda and suddenly found herself immersed in Ayurveda studies (California College of Ayurveda) and traveled to India in 2006 where a travel mate suggested she get a Jyotish (Vedic Astrology) Reading. Literally, a few months later she was absolutely taken aback how a stranger could know, with such precision, the overall course of her life. That was it! She started her Vedic Astrology studies under the tutelage of world-renowned Jyotish Master, Hart deFouw in 2008. Her life would never be the same again and the amount of compassion that grew in her heart begged her to walk away from her $100,000 a year income and comfortable lifestyle. It was one of the hardest things she would ever do. Like the saying goes, "Put your money where your mouth is." Years later she also studied Hasta (Vedic Hand Analysis) and Vastu(Indian Feng-Shui) with Hart deFouw. |
